To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Greece Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Guohua Investment China Energy Europe Renewable Energy S.A., a subsidiary of CHN Energy, held its 2026 Open Day event in Alexandroupolis, Greece on the morning of May 27 local time. Centered on the theme “Mutual Understanding, Shared Affection, Mutual Benefit and Win-Win Cooperation”, the event brought together representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Greece, officials from local Greek governments and fire and forestry departments, local residents and business partners for a gathering dedicated to green development and cultural exchange.

At the event, Li Ying, Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Greece, praised the company for its active contributions to green industry development, social responsibility and wildfire prevention. In recognition of the company’s long-term support for local forest fire prevention efforts, Greek Fire Service General Aristeidis Katirtzidis presented the company with a Special Contribution Award. He noted that wildfire prevention depends primarily on proactive measures, and that the sense of responsibility and innovative thinking demonstrated by Chinese enterprises in joint wildfire prevention and control efforts vividly reflect the deepening multilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Coinciding with the launch of the Open Day, a photo exhibition marking the 20th anniversary of the China-Greece Comprehensive Strategic Partnership also opened. Initiated by the Chinese Embassy in Greece and jointly organized by Xinhua News Agency and Guohua Investment China Energy Europe Renewable Energy S.A., the exhibition used a large collection of valuable images to comprehensively showcase the cooperation between the two countries in trade, energy, culture and other fields. Through a series of documentary photographs, the company also presented the tangible achievements of its clean energy projects in technological innovation and ecological protection, sparking lively discussions among Chinese and international guests.
In light of Greece’s geographic vulnerability to frequent summer wildfires, the company collaborated with local fire departments to organize an innovative seminar on joint wildfire prevention and control. Instructors from the Hellenic Fire Service systematically explained the characteristics of fire hazards at wind farms, meteorological monitoring methods and emergency coordination procedures, while calling on governments and enterprises to share mapping data and conduct joint drills. The specialized training not only provided guidance for Chinese enterprises operating locally in participating in emergency response efforts, but also strengthened safety protections for the local ecology and energy infrastructure.

During the event, the company officially released its 2026 Sustainability Report, comprehensively disclosing its commitments and practices in green operations and community development. Stavros Thomaidis, a local resident representative from Alexandroupolis, shared his personal story of growing up alongside the white windmills, using his own experiences to testify to the positive changes brought by Chinese enterprises to the local community, which resonated strongly with the audience.
As a representative project of China-Greece clean energy cooperation, Guohua Energy Investment’s Thrace wind power project in Greece has a total installed capacity of 78.2 megawatts and generates approximately 160 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, enough to meet the electricity needs of around 30,000 households while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 200,000 tons each year. The continuous supply of green electricity has provided strong support for Greece’s carbon neutrality goals and the optimization of its domestic energy structure. Since entering the Greek market, the company has remained committed to local development by continuously holding branded Open Day events, proactively publishing sustainability reports, and regularly organizing public welfare activities such as community partnerships, youth exchanges and emergency coordination programs, becoming a shining symbol of China-Greece energy cooperation and mutual learning between civilizations.
